Within the framework of the 9th International Conference organized by UNCTAD, the Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA), Irakli Lekvinadze, held a meeting with Helena Leurent, Director General of Consumers International.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on global trends and challenges in the field of consumer protection and explored avenues for future cooperation. Irakli Lekvinadze provided an overview of the Agency’s key achievements and ongoing activities for 2024–2025, the progress achieved, and initiatives implemented in the context of Georgia’s EU integration process. Special emphasis was placed on the GCCA’s planned initiatives for its upcoming ICPEN presidency in 2026–2027.
Special attention was given to the strategic importance of international partnerships in advancing consumer rights and fostering fair and transparent markets. Irakli Lekvinadze formally invited Ms. Leurent to participate in the International Conference on “Competition and Consumer Protection” to be held in Tbilisi in November 2025.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation. Consumers International operates in over 100 countries worldwide, promoting consumer rights, fair markets, digital ethics, and sustainable consumption. The meeting was also attended by Sergo Sanikidze, Head of the Consumer Rights Protection Department at the GCCA.
