GCCA publishes 6-month statistics on consumer rights protection

In the first six months of 2024, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) registered 407 applications related to consumer rights protection.


-In the mentioned period, according to the GCCA’s decision, the 38 facts of violations of the rights of the consumer group were confirmed -in 84 cases.


-Due to non-fulfillment of the obligation imposed by the GCCA, 21 traders were fined in 28 cases, in total - 19,912 GEL.


During the reporting period,


-The Agency signed 67 commitment agreements in favor of the consumer on 77 cases. This means the traders have made an obligation - to change its internal policy and to restore the rights of those consumers who allegedly suffered damages due to the trader’s policy in the past.


68% of the applications received by the consumer refer to online trading, and 32% to the case of purchasing the item on the spot. According to regions, Tbilisi continues to lead with 88%, Adjara with 3%, which is followed by Imereti and other regions.


According to the received applications, the demand for a refund is 132, the repair or return of a defective item is 124, 70 for restoring the right to a defective service, 21 for items delivered within the specified time frame, 19 for the unconditional return of the item, and the rest is 41. 


In the reporting period, according to the received applications, 72% is the wholesale and retail sector, transport and warehousing 12%, arts, entertainment, and leisure 4%, and 12% other activities.
