In Washington, Irakli Lekvinadze, the Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA), and Sergo Sanikidze, Head of GCCA's Consumer Rights Protection Department participated in a panel discussion at the international conference.
The International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) and the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) co-organized the International Conference in Washington.
In his speech, Irakli Lekvinadze emphasized the objective of the decisions made to protect consumer rights, the results, the existing challenges, and the internationally recognized standards and guidelines, that have already been adopted in Georgia in compliance with European Union legislation.
“In 2022, the Parliament of Georgia adopted the Law of Georgia on the Protection of Consumer Rights. At present, our Agency has assessed approximately 1500 applications, resulting in the restoration of rights for thousands of consumers. Adherence is growing due to consumers' increased trust. The GCCA holds awareness-raising meetings with consumers, traders, and various stakeholders. International cooperation, sharing of experiences, digitalization of services, and the introduction of new technologies are important aspects of our future activities," noted Irakli Lekvinadze.
The Heads of consumer rights protection authorities from the United Kingdom, Poland, Armenia, Australia, and New Zealand participated in a panel discussion with the GCCA Chairman.
In a panel discussion examining effective collaboration in consumer protection and enforcement, Sergo Sanikidze participated with representatives from Belgium, the Netherlands, Lithuania, and the United States.
During the working visit, meetings are scheduled with Heads of international organizations and consumer rights protection authorities from various countries. More than 80 countries are participating in the conference.
