Irakli Lekvinadze, Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA), and Sergo Sanikidze, Head of the Consumer Rights Protection Department, presented the results of their two-year work on consumer rights protection at the World Bank Group headquarters in Washington.
The meeting held during the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) conference. The United States will assume the presidency of the ICPEN from 2024 to 2025, and the conference is being hosted by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
During a high-level meeting at the World Bank, Irakli Lekvinadze delivered a detailed summary of legislative arrangements and assurances for consumer rights, protection mechanisms, established standards, and guidelines. He also discussed the specific engagement with various stakeholders and efforts to raise awareness, as well as effective coordination with government bodies, parliament, and sector regulators, and the resulting outcomes. The meeting also emphasized the significance of international collaboration and knowledge sharing in the formulation of strategic decisions.
Heads of consumer rights protection authorities from Mexico, Turkey, and Kenya also took part in the meeting.
