Georgia was awarded by the World Bank for its high standard of consumer rights protection and enforcement

Georgia has been awarded for its high standard of protecting and enforcing consumer rights. The World Bank Group has named Georgia the winner in one of three categories for its efforts in protecting consumer rights, conducting effective reviews of applications, and resolving issues in line with consumer interests.

The event was held on September 27 in Washington and was attended by Irakli Lekvinadze, Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency. He stated that GCCA winning the award organized by the World Bank (World Bank Group), and the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) is a significant step toward improving consumer rights in Georgia. It also demonstrates the country's commitment to adopting international standards and European practices. This award serves as additional validation for the work accomplished in this area.

"The award won by Georgia highlights the high standard of consumer rights protection in business-consumer relations and the successful functioning of enforcement mechanisms in line with EU legislation. This is further evidence that applications are reviewed and resolved quickly and efficiently according to the consumer's interests. Increased loyalty to the Agency and a high level of trust further support this. I express my gratitude to the GCCA team, the Government of Georgia, the Parliament, international and local organizations, experts, and every citizen for their support. This award is a recognition of the results of our collective work," said Irakli Lekvinadze.

Irakli Lekvinadze participated in a conference hosted by the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) and the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The conference was attended by Heads of Authorities from around the world working in the direction of consumer protection.

In 2022, the Parliament of Georgia adopted the Law of Georgia on the Protection of Consumer Rights, designating the Competition and Consumer Agency as its executive body. Since 2023, the GCCA has been a partner of ICPEN, which brings together agencies and member organizations from over 80 countries to work on consumer protection.
