GCCA has launched an investigation into the fish trade sector in Batumi

The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) has launched an investigation into the imported fish trade sector at the Melkimori market in Batumi.

This investigation follows a complaint from "Poseidon 2022" Ltd regarding potential anti-competitive agreements between two companies, "Golden Fish Batumi" Ltd and "Zundagi" Ltd. Additionally, there are concerns regarding the abuse of a dominant position by one of the companies involved in this case.

It is important to note that, during the examination of the case's admissibility, the Agency requested documentation from "Golden Fish Batumi" to understand the essential circumstances surrounding the matter. However, the company failed to provide the requested documents. As a result, the undertaking received a fine of 3,000 GEL.

To investigate potential anti-competitive actions, the Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency established a research group. This group will conduct a thorough investigation into the issues raised in the complaint to address and resolve them promptly.

For information: The Agency makes a decision within six months of starting an investigation. However, due to the importance and complexity of some cases, the duration can extend up to 18 months. In 2024, 2 investigation cases were completed, 4 are still ongoing. During this reporting period, the GCCA issued decisions of inadmissibility for 7 complaints.
