According to Consumer Rights Protection Statistics for the First Eleven Months of 2024 from the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA), 791 applications were registered between January and November 2024. Of these applicants, 70% were female, and 30% were male.
During the reporting period, according to the GCCA’s decision, the 78 facts of violations of the rights of the consumer group were confirmed in 147 cases.
Due to non-fulfillment of the obligation imposed by the GCCA, 44 traders were fined in 75 cases, in total - 44 901 GEL.
The Agency signed 128 commitment agreements in favor of the consumer on 151 cases. This means the traders have made an obligation - to change its internal policy and to restore the rights of those consumers who allegedly suffered damages due to the trader’s policy in the past.
67% of the applications received by the consumer refer to online trading, and 33% to the case of purchasing the item on the spot. According to regions, Tbilisi continues to lead with 85%, Adjara with 4%, which is followed by Imereti with 2%, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti with 2% and other regions.
According to the received applications, the demand for a refund is 275, the repair or return of a defective item is 232, 133 for restoring the right to a defective service, 45 for items delivered within the specified time frame, 30 for the unconditional return of the item, 26 for prohibition of misleading activities and the rest is 50.
In the reporting period, according to the received applications, 73% is the wholesale and retail sector, transport and warehousing 12%, arts, entertainment, and leisure 3%, construction 2% and 10% other activities.
