The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) has approved a new guidance document entitled “Environmental Claims: Principles and Best Practices”. The guidance is designed to promote the accurate, reliable, and legally compliant use of environmental claims (Green Claims) in business-to-consumer interactions.
The document is grounded in the contemporary European Union legal framework, including relevant directives, and is fully consistent with Georgian legislation. It provides a clear definition of what constitutes an environmental claim, identifies the risks associated with misleading claims (greenwashing), and outlines ten core principles that must be observed to prevent consumer deception.
In addition, the guideline serves as a practical tool for businesses, consumers, and other stakeholders. It aims to facilitate informed consumer choices, support fair competition, and contribute to the development of a trust-based market environment.
