Irakli Turmanidze, Head of the Administrative and Financial Department of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA), participated in an international workshop held in Istanbul, dedicated to the enforcement challenges and policy developments related to the abuse of a dominant position.
The workshop brought together representatives of competition authorities from various jurisdictions to exchange views on international enforcement practices in addressing abuse of dominance. Discussions focused on key areas, including pricing practices, exclusive arrangements, discriminatory conditions, emerging challenges in digital and traditional markets, as well as effective enforcement tools and institutional frameworks.
During the event, Irakli Turmanidze presented Georgia’s legislative and institutional framework in the field of competition policy and provided an overview of the GCCA’s enforcement practice. In particular, he highlighted completed investigations in the pharmaceutical and auto import markets, where the Agency established instances of abuse of a dominant position and imposed substantial fines on the undertakings concerned.
The workshop was organised by the Turkish Competition Authority and brought together participants from the Balkan and South Caucasus regions.
