Irakli Lekvinadze, Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency, took part in the National Fair Competition Conference (NFCCC), held in Xi'an, China.
The high level international event, organised by China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), brought together representatives of competition authorities, international organisations, government bodies and the business sector, together with sectoral experts.
In his address to the conference's main session, Irakli Lekvinadze focused on the importance of effective competition policy for sustainable economic growth, the monitoring of strategic markets, the reduction of monopolisation risks, and the need to strike an appropriate balance between competition, investment and industrial policies.
The GCCA Chairman presented Georgia's experience in competition enforcement and the protection of consumer rights to the participants of the event.
"Effective competition policy is one of the principal foundations of sustainable economic growth. In light of global uncertainty, a strong competition policy renders economies more resilient and adaptable, reduces the risks of monopolisation and strengthens investor confidence", stated Irakli Lekvinadze.
The Agency's Chairman also drew attention to the challenges facing competition and consumer rights protection in the digital era, the growing significance of artificial intelligence, and the expanding economic ties between Georgia and China. In his view, Georgia plays a significant role in strengthening economic links between Asia and Europe, including within the framework of the Middle Corridor and Silk Road routes.
As part of the conference agenda, participants discussed the strengthening of antitrust enforcement and the fostering of business development; the control of economic concentrations and the development of a unified national market; the improvement of effectiveness in combating unfair competition; and the elimination of barriers to fair competition in the market.
The 2026 National Fair Competition Conference was held on 7-8 September in Xi'an, China, under the theme "Unified National Market, Fair Competition for the Future-Fostering a Market Order Characterized by High Quality, Fair Pricing and Healthy Competition".
