GCCA Chairman Irakli Lekvinadze took part in the panel discussion "Financial Education in Schools: A National Vision", held as part of the teachers' conference "Financial Education in Schools: From Idea to Classroom", organised by the National Bank of Georgia.
The panel examined the importance of financial education and the national policy framework underpinning it. Participants considered how cooperation between state agencies and the financial sector could advance the integration of financial education into school curricula, the opportunities and challenges this presents, and the steps required to cultivate sound financial knowledge, attitudes and skills among the younger generation.
Irakli Lekvinadze outlined the Agency's experience in raising awareness of financial education and consumer rights. Under the educational project launched in 2025, 70 meetings were held, engaging approximately 2,500 pupils. The project extended beyond the capital to 8 regions, with particular attention given to schools serving ethnic minority communities, as well as border-area and specialised schools.
"Financial education forms an important foundation for responsible economic behaviour and informed decision-making. Its development is of particular significance for young people, as the financial knowledge and skills acquired will, in future, help safeguard their own financial interests while contributing to a healthy and competitive market environment. Accordingly, the systematic integration of financial education into the learning process, together with coordinated cooperation between state agencies and the private sector, is a precondition for achieving meaningful results in the long term", said Mr. Lekvinadze.
The Chairman further addressed the use of digital tools in education, highlighting the Agency's online competition dictionary, which supports teachers and pupils in developing a deeper understanding of financial, economic and legal matters.
"Schools and educators require ready-made, qualified support to ensure financial education is integrated into the learning environment in a natural and engaging manner. It is precisely for this reason that inter-institutional cooperation, together with the development of modern, practically-grounded resources, is of particular importance", said Mr. Lekvinadze.
The conference sought to facilitate the exchange of experience and best practice in financial education, support its integration into school curricula, and strengthen cooperation between state agencies and the education and financial sectors.
