The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) held an educational meeting with local young people at the Digital Development Space of the Rustavi Youth Center.
The meeting was chaired by GCCA Chairman Irakli Lekvinadze and attended by close to 50 schoolchildren and students aged between 18 and 29.
In his address, the Chairman outlined the significance of fair competition and its bearing on consumer welfare, explaining how a competitive market environment fosters more favourable pricing and higher-quality goods and services. He also set out the mechanisms in place for identifying and countering anti-competitive practices.
Particular emphasis was placed on consumer rights, including the 14-day unconditional right of withdrawal applicable to online purchases and the two-year statutory guarantee period.
Participants were introduced to www.ekalata.gov.ge, an information portal established on the initiative of the Government of Georgia, which enables consumers to compare prices across a range of retail chains and thereby make informed purchasing decisions.
Chairman Lekvinadze further presented the Agency's educational resources and its online competition glossary, drawing on the Agency's accumulated experience in delivering educational initiatives for young people.
The meeting in Rustavi marks the launch of a new cycle of educational engagements between GCCA and young people nationwide. The initiative is being carried out under a memorandum of cooperation concluded with the Youth Agency, and will be extended to further municipalities across Georgia in the period ahead.
