Under the Memorandum of Cooperation concluded with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) is launching a new phase of information and education meetings in public schools.
In line with the plan for the first semester of the current academic year, representatives of the GCCA Training Research Centre will visit 25 public schools in Tbilisi and the regions. Students will be introduced to the basic rights of consumers and the mechanisms for their protection, the principles of competition policy and the work of the Agency. The meetings will be held in an interactive question-and-answer format, with practical examples and key decisions presented for discussion.
The delivery of information and education activities in public schools is one of the areas of cooperation laid down in the Memorandum between the GCCA and the Ministry. The cooperation is aimed at raising young people's awareness of competition and consumer rights issues and at improving access to relevant knowledge.
In addition to Tbilisi, meetings will take place in the following regions: Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti.
Particular attention will be paid to vulnerable groups, including students belonging to ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities, with a view to ensuring that information and education resources on competition and consumer rights are equally accessible to them.
Last year, representatives of the Training Research Centre held 51 information and education meetings with public school students in Tbilisi and the regions over the course of the academic year, attended by around 1 500 students.
