At the invitation of the Competition Council of Morocco, Irakli Lekvinadze, Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency, participated in an international conference held in Marrakech, Morocco, on 14 October. The conference focused on competition, regulation and governance in the healthcare sector.
Irakli Lekvinadze participated in a panel discussion with representatives of the competition authorities of Morocco, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain and India, which examined the role of competition in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. The discussion focused on effective enforcement of competition law, continuous market monitoring, inter-agency coordination, transparent approaches to the pricing of medicines and healthcare services, and the control of concentrations, particularly in highly concentrated markets. The Chairman presented the work of the GCCA and shared Georgia’s experience in this area, including the recommendations issued to improve the competitive environment and the results achieved following their implementation.
The conference brought together representatives of government authorities from different countries, national, regional and international organisations, sector experts and other stakeholders. Discussions addressed the regulation of competition in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors and the adaptation of market participants to a changing environment. The event offered peer authorities a valuable opportunity to exchange international experience and best practices. The discussions were particularly relevant for strengthening competition in markets and promoting an economic governance model that takes into account the interests of citizens, businesses and the State.
