The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) organised an international webinar under the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) Working Group on “Enhancing Digital Consumer Awareness and Transparency in Marketing Practices”. The GCCA co-chairs the Working Group together with its Polish counterpart.
The webinar provided an overview of the Working Group’s activities and presented the main findings of the Consolidated Report on National Stakeholder Roundtables. Gulnaz Bokuchava, Chief Specialist at the GCCA’s Consumer Rights Protection Department, moderated the session and presented the report on the outcomes of the GCCA’s roundtable.
Discussions focused on current challenges and legal aspects of digital marketing. These included the transparency of influencer activity and the mandatory identification of advertising content, action against misleading commercial practices, and the prevention and regulation of “dark patterns” in digital interfaces.
The webinar aimed to foster the exchange of academic and practical experience among participating jurisdictions. This included a discussion of national legislative frameworks, regulatory guidance and effective enforcement mechanisms, which will contribute to higher and more harmonised consumer protection standards at international level.
Representatives of 25 countries took part in the webinar. During the session, representatives of the competent authorities of Peru and Nigeria also presented their practices, national regulatory approaches and enforcement experience.
