GCCA holds information meetings with residents in all five municipalities of Adjara

On 22-23 October, Tariel Giorgadze, representative of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, held information meetings with residents of the municipalities of Khulo, Shuakhevi, Keda, Khelvachauri and Kobuleti.

Tariel Giorgadze introduced participants to the activities, mandate and powers of the GCCA, focusing in particular on the core principles of competition policy and the protection of consumers’ interests. He also presented consumer rights and the mechanisms for their enforcement, and explained how consumers can submit a complaint to the Agency where their rights have been infringed.

A key item of the presentation was the new online portal ekalata.gov.ge. Established as a short-term measure, the portal was launched at the initiative of the Prime Minister of Georgia, following the conclusions of the Parliamentary Commission on the price formation structure of food products.

Tariel Giorgadze explained in detail how the portal works, its practical benefits and its purpose. In a single online space, consumers can access information on prices and offers for basic food and non-food products, easily compare prices across retail chains and make informed choices, helping them to save money. The portal also contributes to stronger competition in the market and to the protection of consumers’ interests.

The information meetings form part of the GCCA’s awareness-raising activities in the area of consumer protection. They were organised in cooperation with the local self-government bodies of the municipalities and aim to raise residents’ awareness of their rights as consumers and of the role of competition.
