Organized by the Training Research Centre of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA), Agency representatives conducted a series of educational and awareness-raising sessions across the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region.
The interactive sessions were hosted across four public schools in Senaki and Poti: Senaki Public School N 7; Arnold Chikobava Public School in Dzveli Senaki; Niko Nikoladze Public School N 2 in Poti; and Ilia Chavchavadze Public School N 5 in Poti.
Giorgi Meladze, Chief Specialist of the Strategic Markets Monitoring Department, delivered presentations on the core principles of market competition. Ketevan Chumburidze, Chief Specialist of the Consumer Rights Protection Department, led the sessions on consumer rights protection.
During the sessions, students were briefed on the core principles of competition and consumer rights protection. The presenters highlighted the role of fair competition in improving the quality of products and services, fostering innovation, and favorable prices for consumers. They also reviewed key examples of antitrust infringements, such as price-fixing cartels and the abuse of a dominant position.
On consumer rights protection, discussions focused on statutory trader obligations and e-commerce rules, emphasizing key consumer rights such as the 14-day mandatory right of withdrawal (return without justification) and commercial guarantee terms.
Agency representatives also introduced pupils to the GCCA's operational mandate and digital tools designed to empower informed consumer choice. Special focus was given to the Agency’s educational portal, the online Competition Dictionary, and the interactive price comparison platform "Ekalata," detailing their functionality and practical application.
This educational initiative is carried out under the Memorandum of Understanding between the GCCA and the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia. The joint program aims to enhance youth awareness of market economics and consumer rights while broadening access to civic education. Beyond Tbilisi, regional outreach sessions have been conducted across Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, and Samtskhe-Javakheti.
