Irakli Lekvinadze- Growing number of applications to the GCCA reflects strong public trust

The number of applications submitted to the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) has significantly increased in recent years. In 2025, the Agency recorded a 65% rise in applications compared to 2024. Moreover, during the first two months of the current year, the number of applications increased by 92% compared to the same period of the previous year, reflecting a growing level of consumer awareness of their rights. This was stated by Irakli Lekvinadze, Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency, during his address at an event held in Batumi within the framework of the 4th International Consumer Protection Week.

In his remarks, Irakli Lekvinadze also highlighted the key standards and guidance documents developed by the GCCA, as well as the progress achieved by the Agency in recent years in terms of institutional development and international recognition.

According to the Chairman, approximately 90% of the cases reviewed by the Agency are resolved in favour of consumers, while more than GEL 1 million was reimbursed to consumers in total during the past year.

“It is an honour for the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency that Georgia will chair the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) in 2026-2027. This reflects the progress achieved by the country in strengthening the consumer protection framework, as well as the Agency’s active international engagement. In addition, the Agency received the 2025 Consumer Education Award established by ICPEN and the World Bank, highlighting the importance of consumer awareness and education in our work”, noted Irakli Lekvinadze.

The event also featured welcome remarks by Vladimer Bozhadze, Member of Parliament; David Onoprishvili, Head of the Insurance State Supervision Service; Davit Narmania, Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission; Goga Gulordava, Chairman of the Georgian National Communications Commission, and Levan Kalandadze, Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency.
