An official team from Georgia, led by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Genadi Arveladze visited Brussels to debate the proposals of the 2023 EU expansion study. The meeting was attended by Nino Tandilashvili, The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia; the Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Head of the Mission of Georgia to the European Union H.E. Vakhtang Makharoblishvili; Salome Kavtaradze, Head of Legal Department of the Competition and Consumer Agency; Representatives of relevant Georgian ministries, and heads of relevant European Union Directorate-General.
Participants in the meeting reviewed the implementation of the recommendations indicated in the European Commission's conclusion, as well as the scheduled actions. The European Commission praised Georgia's efforts and expressed a willingness to work with the country's relevant agencies. The European Union emphasized its expectations regarding the issues that Georgia, as a candidate country, should address to demonstrate further progress.
Within the framework of the meeting, recommendations for the functioning of the common market, as outlined in the chapters, were considered. Thematic meetings focused on the chapters' evaluations and recommendations on free movement of goods, enterprise and industrial policy, right of establishment and freedom to provide services, state procurement, competition policy, agriculture and rural development, environment and climate change, food safety, and veterinary and phytosanitary policy.
