The Competition Agency in favor of the consumer signed a commitment agreement with Carrefour

The Georgian National Competition Agency in favor of the consumer, signed a commitment agreement with the trading network Carrefour. The company has made an obligation to change its internal policy and to restore the rights of those consumers who allegedly suffered damages due to the trader’s policy in the past.


According to the decision of the Agency, the trader was instructed to:



  • Clearly, comprehensibly and fully provide the information defined by the law to a consumer in the national language of Georgia.

  • To post information intended for the consumer in retail stores and remote sales spaces.

  • To provide a selling price of the goods/services in a clear and understandable manner.

  • To restore the rights of consumers.


The issue was concerned to the alleged violation of the law of Georgia on the protection of consumer rights, based on the statement of the representative of citizen Cisana Birkaia, Ia Siranashvili, in relation to "Majid Al Futaim Hypermarket Georgia" (trading network Carrefour,).


Within the framework of the case study, the Agency considered the commitment agreements offered by the trader and found, that the risk of the alleged violation of the law will no longer exist as a result of the fulfillment of the obligations assumed by the trader.


For information: from November 2022 - to April 2023, Agency has received 213 applications and a case study has been started on 135 applications. For 6 months the 35 commitment agreement was signed in favor of the consumer on 59 cases. The issue regarding the 19 commitment agreement signed in 22 cases has been completely exhausted. The fact of violation was confirmed in 9 cases (22 cases), and in 3 cases was not confirmed.
