The Georgian National Competition Agency has started to study the issue of the possible violation of the law of Georgia on the protection of consumer rights in Batumi, in the food service sector

The case concerns the service provided by 11 traders only in a foreign language in public food facilities, cafes and bars. In particular, on the basis of the letter of the "Batumi Municipal Inspection", the reference (food) menu is drawn up and delivered to the consumer in a non-national language. Within the framework of the monitoring implemented by the relevant office, it is also confirmed that due to the lack of knowledge of the national language in food facilities, consumers are often refused to provide service in the Georgian language. Based on the provided information, it is established that the number of trade facilities may increase.

For information: In accordance with the Law of Georgia on the Protection of Consumer Rights, the trader is obliged to provide services in the national Georgian language on the territory of Georgia. The National Competition Agency, within the official powers granted by the legislation, begins to study the issue in case of a specific notification, if it has information that as a result of the action(s) of a specific trader, damages or is likely to damage the interests of a group of consumers.
