The Georgian National Competition Agency recently completed an investigation into possible violations of the Georgian Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights in the food service sector in Batumi. The investigation targeted five merchants, and the according to the Agency’s decision the fact of violation on the part of three traders - "Kizil 2023" LLC, "Grill Food" LLC, and "Harvident" LLC - had confirmed by providing reference menus and services in non-state languages in their food facilities. However, the Agency could not confirm any violation on the part of "Dano" LLC and "Maxi Sandwich Chicken" LLC.
To determine the relevant circumstances more accurately, the Agency imposed a fine of 500 GEL on "Gril Food" LLC and "Harvident" LLC for not providing the requested information within the established period. As of today, "Grill Food" LLC has paid the fine.
The National Competition Agency started the study of the case on the basis of the letter from the "Batumi Municipal Inspection". The case concerns the service provided by 11 traders only in a foreign language in public food facilities, cafes and bars. The investigation of the case against 6 traders is ongoing. The decision made by the Agency will be public and accessible to everyone.
In accordance with the legislation, all consumers have the right to request and receive information in the state language, and not knowing it cannot be a reason for refusing to provide services.
