Irakli Lekvinadze, Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency, addressed at the Central Asian Competition Forum, held by the Competition Authority of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Irakli Lekvinadze discussed regarding the concentration control procedures in Georgia, the Agency's monitoring of the pharmaceutical market, and the recommendations provided.
“13 recommendations were issued within the framework of monitoring the pharmaceutical market in 2022, which is being actively implemented. The Government of Georgia and the Ministry of Health have implemented reforms that have resulted in positive outcomes such as increased competition in the market and reduced prices. Additionally, an effective control mechanism has been developed for monitoring concentrations, and unions are checked every quarter. If non-notification occurs, a response is provided”- stated Irakli Lekvinadze.
Giorgi Kedelidze, the Head of the Agency's Strategic Markets Monitoring Department, also attended the event and presented attendees with thorough information regarding pharmaceutical sector activities in the form of a presentation.
200 delegates from 15 countries participated in the conference held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, among them, the first persons of competition authorities, representatives of the International Competition Network (ICN), OECD, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). In a round table format, the participants discussed the results obtained in the direction of competition policy, the latest trends, current challenges and opportunities.
