Irakli Lekvinadze - the anti-dumping measure aims to provide a fair environment for importers and local producers
On May 15-16, at the initiative of the Georgian National Competition Agency and with the organizing and financial support of the Association Agreement Facilitation (AA Facility) project which assists the EU and Georgia to implement the Association Agreement, a working meeting was held on the draft resolutions of the Government of Georgia on the introduction of anti-dumping measures in trade.
The event was opened by the Chairman of the Georgian National Competition Agency, Irakli Lekvinadze. “The purpose of the Georgian law on anti-dumping measures is to protect local industry from the damage caused by dumped imports, to provide a fair environment for importers and local producers. The law came into force in 2021 and the agency will start accepting applications from June 1. Therefore, the purpose of our meeting today, which is held with the involvement of business and public sector representatives - is to maximize the interests of the parties and to elaborate on several procedural or legal issues. Thanks to each representative for participating. This legislation is a novelty for the reality of Georgia and to share information, in the format of dialogue, work with various target groups will continue in the future.”
️there were discussed three draft bylaws at the working meeting: “Rules and Procedures for the Study of the Introduction of Anti-Dumping Measures in Trade”, “Decision-Making of the Government of Georgia on the Introduction of Anti-Dumping Measures in Trade” and “Rules for the Administration of Anti-Dumping Tariffs”. The two-day meeting with representatives of the business and public sector was held in a discussion, question-and-answer format.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Parliament of Georgia, the Administration of the Government of Georgia, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Revenue Service, the Office of the Business Ombudsman, the private sector, up to 20 industry associations and the National Competition Agency.
The participants of the meeting were also addressed by: Mariam Gabunia, Head of the Foreign Trade Policy Department of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and Nika Sergia, Head of the Anti-Dumping Measures Department of the Competition Agency.
In order to share international practice and experience, with the support of AA Facility, Soon, a 2-day training is planned for the staff of the Competition Agency under the guidance of a foreign expert on these issues, and the representatives of the business sector expressed their desire to attend the meeting as well.
