The 8th meeting of the Association Committee on Trade is holding within the framework of the Georgia-EU Association Agreement

Within the framework of the Georgia-EU Association Agreement, the 8th meeting of the Association Committee on Trade is holding in the format of digital video conferencing. The Georgian side is led by the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Genadi Arveladze. Sophia Momtselidze, Head of the Legal Department of the Georgian National Competition Agency, has delivered a speech at the event.

The representative of the Agency's report addressed the amendments in the law "On Competition" and its use in practice, the activities carried out during the year, cases investigated by the Agency, and the measures taken to raise public awareness of both competition and anti-dumping policies.

Taken measures and achieved results of the Agency have positively assessed by the EU representatives. It is important to note that the commitments under the Georgia-EU Association Agreement, drafted for the effective management of competition policy, has been fulfilled.

In 2020, approved amendments to the Law of Georgia "on Competition" are the best example of the harmonization of Georgian National Legislation with the EU. The functions and responsibilities of the Agency have been identified and improved. The Law of Georgia on Introduction of Anti-Dumping Measures in Trade entered into force, which aims to establish the principles and instruments of fair trade for protecting the local industry against dumped imports. Amendments have been made to the Law "on Public Procurement," which provides for the Agency to ensure the organizational activities of the Public Procurement Dispute Resolution Board. The draft law on "Consumer Rights Protection" has been initiated in the Parliament, which will be executed under the Agency. The document is prepared in full compliance with European directives and serves to improve the standard of protection of consumer rights.

The meeting of the Association Committee is held annually and aims to inform the EU representatives about the progress made by the Georgian side.
