Irakli Lekvinadze is participating in the session of intergovernmental experts on competition law and policy at the invitation of UNCTAD

Chairman of the Georgian National Competition Agency, Irakli Lekvinadze, at the invitation of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), is being on a working visit to Geneva.

The 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Experts on Competition Law and Policy is being held in Switzerland on July 20-22. The cases related to the enforcement of competition law and protection of consumer rights, international approaches, existing challenges and strategically important issues will be discussed at the meeting

The meetings are held in a discussion format, where high-ranking leaders discuss the experiences and opportunities gained during the pandemic in socially important markets for effective response in the future.

Within the framework of the 20th session of intergovernmental experts on competition law and policy, one of the important issues is the steps taken regarding of protection of consumer rights and the development of effective enforcement mechanisms. It is important to note that on June 1, 2022, Georgia adopted the Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights, the process of enforcement of which the National Competition Agency begins on November 1.

Within the framework of the working visit, there are planned personal meetings of the chairman of the National Competition Agency with the heads of competition agencies of other countries.
